NOCTURNE, by JESSIE E. WILLIAMS First Line: What fragrance breathes when ione's hands Last Line: As wan as ghosts of lilac-blooms! | ||||||||
What fragrance breathes when Ione's hands, Her slender, facile, gifted hands, Poise gracefully, and leap, And lave themselves in perfumed waves Of melting minors, purple-hued, With rapture of the jasmine's breath, With sadness of wisteria! Upon her flood-tide's plaintive crest Ride chords as vivid as a passion-flower, And half-submerged, mysterious, Tones, in a smooth, unhurrying flow, As wan as ghosts of lilac-blooms! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FAREWELL by JESSIE E.
